The AMA Jazz Dance Company premieres on June 12th the show “Desfruta-me” (Enjoy Me), a contemporary jazz piece that explores the impacts of hyper-connectivity on human relationships. Choreographed and directed by Juliano Ferreira, the work uses dance to reflect on information overload, the accelerated consumption of digital content, and the impacts of excessive screen time on physical and mental health, as well as social relationships.
On the 12th, performances will take place at 16:30 PM and 19:30 PM at the Teatro Reviver Magó. On the 13th, there will be a single session at 19:30 PM at the Teatro Barracão, with audio description. Closing the season, on the 14th, the final performances will take place at 16:30 PM and 19:30 PM, also at the Barracão. All sessions are free of charge. Rated for ages 10 and up, the project is made possible by the Aniceto Matti Funding and features dancers Augusto Hattori, Ana Júlia Sarri, Gustavo Braga, Hemyly Leme, Jade Tourinho, José Sancevini, Luísa Guidelli, Mariana Castilho, Mariana Renisz, and Nicoly Leona.
Built upon body research developed by the group at the Márcia Angeli Academy, the performance stems from an autonomous initiative by the cast, who seek to deepen their investigations into dance beyond regular classes. On stage, they explore movement research and experimentation.
The show aims to be a critique, but also a self-critique of the accelerated pace at which we adapt to events. "The work delves into our relationship with technology, exposing how the excessive use of cell phones transforms us into 'contemporary zombies.' It's a critical look at how the constant interference of the internet shapes behavior and even wears down the very essence of the human body," comments the choreographer and director, Juliano Ferreira.
The piece uses everyday references to reflect on the constant relationship with mobile devices and social networks. One of the concepts addressed is FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), an expression used to describe the fear of missing out on virtual events and interactions, a feeling that leads many people to remain continuously connected.
In the performance, an apple (a symbol associated with a well-known technology company) crosses the stage as a metaphor for the unbridled consumption of information, without time to critically process it. Fought over by the dancers, the fruit represents the need to participate in debates, trends, and events circulating on social media, even when they are distant from everyday experience.
In addition to the performances, the project will include educational activities aimed at the community. Two free contemporary jazz workshops will be offered, taught by Juliano Ferreira and dancers Ana Julia Sarri, Gustavo Braga, and Jade Tourinho, open to participants with prior dance experience.
