The Faep System will launch the “Movido pelo Agro” program in Maringá next Monday, June 9. This initiative encourages the consumption of ethanol, a sustainable fuel produced by the agricultural sector that contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

As of the 9th, the fleet of 52 vehicles in the Faep System will be fueled exclusively with alcohol, considered a renewable energy source, unlike gasoline, a fossil fuel.

According to the International Energy Agency, compared to gasoline, ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 89%, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide. Furthermore, because it has a higher octane rating than gasoline, ethanol improves engine performance, as it is more resistant to detonation. Therefore, the engines of alcohol-powered cars, due to the fuel, become 2% more powerful.

“It is a natural move, as we are an entity that represents rural producers. There is no reason to use fossil fuels, such as gasoline, if we have an alternative produced by agriculture with a series of advantages, especially in relation to the environment,” highlights the interim president of the Faep System, Ágide Eduardo Meneguette. “All of our vehicles will be fueled exclusively with ethanol. It is a way for us to set an example and encourage the use of this green fuel,” he adds.

The Faep System fleet was covered with the “Movido pelo Agro” logo to inform the community that they are joining the program. In addition, there will be an internal action aimed at the organization’s employees.

Employees of the Faep System can join the campaign by placing stickers on the fuel cap of their private cars. In addition, every month, the Faep System will raffle 10 fuel vouchers to employees who join the “Movido pelo Agro” campaign.

In Brazil, alcohol is produced mainly from sugar cane and corn, two of the main agricultural products in Paraná. “Therefore, encouraging ethanol is supporting agriculture,” summarizes Meneguette.

The program
“Movido pelo Agro” is an initiative developed by the Agriculture Federation of the State of Minas Gerais (Faemg), launched in 2023. It is estimated that the program has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 140 tons, through the replacement of gasoline with ethanol by the entities that joined.

In addition to the Faep System, other entities have also joined the “Movido pelo Agro” initiative, such as the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), and the Agriculture Federations of Goiás (Faeg) and Mato Grosso do Sul (Famasul). Siamig Bioenergia, the Agronelli Group and BioSul are also part of the initiative.
