Grain production in Brazil could reach 336,1 million tons to be harvested in the 2024/25 harvest, according to an estimate released this Thursday, June 12, by the National Supply Company (Conab).

If confirmed, the result represents an increase of 38,6 million tons (or 13%) compared to the previous harvest. According to Conab, this will be “a new production record”, as suggested by the 9th Survey of the 2024/25 Grain Harvest.

The survey assesses that this “good performance” is due to “good crop productivity, projected at 4.108 kilos per hectare, combined with a 2,3% increase in the cultivated area, estimated at 81,8 million hectares”.

Main product sown in the second harvest, the corn should record a total production of 128,3 million tons. Harvesting work for the 2nd corn crop has begun in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, Maranhão and Paraná. The expectation is that 101 million tons will be harvested in this cycle alone, an increase of 12,2% compared to the 2nd harvest of the grain in the previous season. The good expectation is influenced by the good productivity achieved, which reflects the favorable weather conditions for the cereal that occurred throughout the cycle in most producing regions, in addition to the appropriate management adopted by Brazilian producers.

Another standout product is the cotton, which already points to a harvest of 1,4% of the planted area. Cotton production is estimated at 3,9 million tons, 5,7% higher than the 2023/24 harvest. This result is due to the 7,1% growth in the cultivated area, since irregular rainfall, so far, is reflecting in a lower productivity than that observed in the previous harvest, but sufficient to maintain the development of crops.

In the case of bean, a product grown in 3 cycles throughout the year, the expectation is a total production of 3,17 million tons, which guarantees domestic supply. In the first legume harvest, with the harvest completed, the volume produced reached 1,1 million tons. For the second harvest, the grain filling and maturation stages predominate, but there are already locations with the harvest underway, especially Paraná and Minas Gerais, where work totaled 98% and 74% respectively on May 31. The third harvest is in the planting phase.

For rice, another important food for the domestic market that has almost completed its harvest, Conab reports a 14,9% increase in production, estimated at 12,15 million tons. This increase is justified both by the larger area planted with the grain, as well as by more favorable weather conditions, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, the largest national producer.

Producers of soybean have also completed harvesting work. The production of the oilseed is estimated at 169,6 million tons, 21,9 million tons higher than the 2023/24 harvest, a record volume in the Company's historical series. The good result is justified by the growing use of technology by producers, combined with good weather conditions in most producing regions.

Among the winter crops, highlighting wheat, with sowing reaching approximately 42% of the area designated for the crop. Planting in Paraná reaches 72% of the area, a rate similar to the average of the last 5 years. In Rio Grande do Sul, planting reaches 8% of the area. Work in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the main producer of the cereal, was limited due to the occurrence of frequent rains and the short duration of dry periods at the end of the month.
