On Saturday, the 29th, the Maringá Social Complex, of the Paraná Penal Police (PPPR), in partnership with the Maringá Community Council, held a special activity in allusion to Women's Month. The event, which also involved crocheting, was aimed at monitored, former inmates and service providers served by the complex and featured a diverse program, including prize distribution, activities for children and guidance on electronic monitoring.

One of the main initiatives of the meeting was the workshop of the Loucos por Crochê project, created in 2018 to meet the demand of the company's customers. Cianorte Twine. Over time, the project expanded its reach to schools, associations, prisons and rehabilitation clinics. The course aims to stimulate motor skills, strengthen psychological well-being and increase the self-esteem of participants. In addition, learning to crochet can represent an opportunity to generate income, allowing women to develop a manual job that can benefit both their families and their financial autonomy.

The regional coordinator of the Penal Police in Maringá, Júlio César Vicente Franco, highlighted the importance of the initiative. “The social reintegration of these women involves concrete opportunities for learning and autonomy. Projects like this are essential so that they can rebuild their trajectories with dignity and prospects for a better future,” he said.

Social worker Helena Maria Ramos dos Santos, supervisor of Social Services at the Center for Care for Monitored People (Nupem) project, also highlighted the importance of the event for the women being served. “It is an exchange of knowledge between them. They were guided to understand what crochet is and its importance, especially as an alternative for generating income. Learning this craft allows them to both produce for their families and obtain an additional source of income,” explained Helena.

The coordinator of the Maringá Social Complex, José Paulo Viana da Silva, highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative. “This action goes far beyond teaching crochet. It represents a new beginning for many of these women, offering not only training, but also hope and belonging. It is gratifying to see the involvement and dedication of each one of them,” he emphasized.

The partnership with the company Barbantes Cianorte was essential to the success of the workshop. The company voluntarily attended the event and provided the activity, sharing experiences and techniques with the participants.
