The Santa Fé Environmental Ministry is running a fundraising campaign called “Socks for Good.” The campaign began in October and will run until January 31 of next year. The initiative was initiated by the ministry’s coordinator, Tereza Citelli. She saw the idea in a WhatsApp group that belongs to the pastorals of Paraná and decided to join the city. “I researched it on the internet and saw that there were collection points in Maringá. There was one at the Avenida Center Shopping Mall. I called there several times and they didn’t answer. Then I saw that there was one in Catuaí too and I spoke to the Puket store,” she says.
Tereza was informed that she could collect the blankets and that she needed to register an organization to receive them. “I registered the Human Promotion Center and looked for places to collect the material. It’s a campaign that aims to reduce the amount of material that ends up in the trash, thinking about reusing it.”
In Santa Fé, there are three collection points: Santa Cor Tintas, Desterro Loja and Naturale. Collection is still slow, but the expectation of helping others is valuable.
The Meias do Bem initiative was created by the pajama and accessories brand Puket, which combined the need to offer protection to homeless individuals in winter with the reuse of waste. By collecting old socks, the company recycles them and makes new blankets, which are delivered to institutions and homeless people.
