The year 2024 was the hottest in the history of planet Earth and temperatures continue to rise, part of Rio Grande do Sul was devastated by floods, in the Amazon region, the largest river basin in the world, rivers dried up to the point of disappearing; in Paraná, gales caused serious problems and climate change has harmed agricultural and livestock production.
These are some of the issues that are at the center of debates at the 5th National Environmental Conference, which the city of Santa Fé is holding this Thursday, the 23rd, at the Municipal Public Library.
“These discussions that we are presenting at the Conference are for everyone, because the environment, extreme events and climate emergency are issues that concern us all, they bring us challenges that we have to face together”, says Environment Director José Marcos Alves dos Santos, Marquinhos Alves.
According to the director, the challenge of dealing with the climate emergency is complex, global and regional, and depends on the action of governments and each person. “The challenge may seem very big, but we can start to overcome it with small actions, which start within our homes.”
The conference will be held on five climate axes. It seeks solutions that are up to civil society, government and institutions. The solutions suggested in Santa Fé will be presented at a state conference, still in the first quarter, in Curitiba, which, in turn, will present suggestions to be presented at the National Conference, from May 6 to 9.
“In addition to discussing possible solutions, we will have the opportunity to discuss issues that affect us all. This conference will be an opportunity to increase our awareness about the environment and the role of each individual, whether a child, teenager or adult,” says Marquinhos Alves.
