From now on, no citizen of Santa Fe will be able to claim that they are unaware of what is happening in the city hall, in the departments and in all sectors of the municipality. Anyone will be able to follow the day-to-day activities of Mayor Edson Palotta (PP), learn about all the work fronts, projects carried out in the city or rural areas, opening of bids, contracts with companies, receipt of state funds or the Municipal Participation Fund (FPM).
“The internet allows us to be in homes, businesses, and institutions in Santa Fé, as well as in the hands of every person who has a cell phone,” says Mayor Palotta, who is creating the Department of Social Communication and Transparency to be a communication channel between the city government and the public.
According to Palotta, the world today demands transparency in public services and during the election campaign he assured voters that he would provide maximum transparency to his administration. “It is a citizen’s right. If he has access to everything we are doing, he will be able to help us with suggestions, corrections, in short, he will be able to have greater participation, he will help us manage what is his as well.”
Leading the Department of Social Communication and Transparency will be Durval Simardi, a law graduate who comes from a banking career and enters the public service with the responsibility of making the Edson Palotta/Rafael Figueira administration clear and transparent for the residents of Santa Fé.
In addition to traditional media, such as printed newspapers, radio stations and billboards, Simardi will mainly use the internet to show everything that the city government is doing. “Citizens can go home at night and, whenever they want, use their cell phones or computers to see everything that is being done on social media,” he says.
Simardi is currently showing city department secretaries and directors how they themselves can help publicize achievements in their respective areas.
